African American Museum Offers Free Movies

Dallas Park and Recreation continues to bring communities together with a list of its Holiday happenings, including the Holiday Matinee Movie Series at the African American Museum of Dallas.

Each Friday in December, everyone is invited to enjoy a holiday movie free of charge at the African American Museum located at 3536 Grand Ave. in Fair Park. Enter through Gate 5.

The museum’s movie series will run until December 22. The movies start at noon, so make sure to arrive on time. You don’t want to miss out on the remaining two films, The Preacher’s Wife on December 15 and Jingle Jangle on December 22.

The Preacher’s Wife, directed by Penny Marshall and starring Denzel Washington and Whitney Houston, was released in 1996 and promotes a message of faith and love, according to ReelViews.

Jingle Jangle: A Christmas Journey is a musical fantasy released via Netflix in 2020 that has a positive message about healing and discovering one’s inner magic, according to IMDb. Directed by David E. Talbert and featuring actors such as Forest Whitaker, Madalen Mills, and Phylicia Rashad lighting up the screen, this movie will captivate and inspire viewers of all ages.

The African American Museum also offers ongoing exhibits such as “Reintroducing the Sam & Ruth Bussey Art Gallery | Imagination and Materiality: The Power of Memory and Storytelling in Black Art” as well as limited exhibits, including “Gallery B: Central Track: Crossroads of Deep Ellum” on display now through May 31, 2024.
