Twenty Garland ISD elementary schools have begun COVID-19 vaccine clinics. The district and Dallas County Health and Human Services are partnering to host the vaccination clinics.

After the Pfizer vaccine for children ages five to eleven was approved, Garland ISD and Dallas County Health and Human Services hope to administer the Pfizer vaccine to students in the district.

The vaccination clinic, however, isn’t limited to students. Families and teachers are also allowed to use the clinic as adult doses are available.

The clinic will be open in the morning before school from 7:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. and in the afternoon after school hours from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.

Last month, the FDA authorized the use of the Pfizer vaccine for children as young as five after the vaccine proved effective in protecting children ages five to eleven from COVID-19.

According to a study by the FDA, 3,100 children within the age of five and eleven reported no severe side effects after using the vaccine, which is three times lower in dose than the vaccine for people twelve and above.
