Two members of Texas’ 10 Most Wanted list landed back in custody after arrests in Houston and Waco.

Texas Department of Public Safety agents captured Carl James Hegert on February 18 at a Houston apartment complex.

The capture of Hegert, 40, a Texas 10 Most Wanted Sex Offender, was a collaborative effort by DPS Criminal Investigations Division special agents, Texas Highway Patrol troopers with the Texas Anti-Gang Violent Crimes Unit in Houston, and U.S. Marshals Gulf Coast Violent Offenders Fugitive Task Force members.

Hegert’s convictions, beginning in 2006, include theft of a firearm, sexual assault of a child, assault causing bodily injury to a family member, failure to register as a sex offender, and manufacture or delivery of a controlled substance. The Texas Department of Criminal Justice released him in January 2025.

A Waller County warrant for larceny issued in October 2025 placed Hegert on the list, along with a San Jacinto County charge for failing to comply with sex offender registration requirements.

Authorities arrested Brien Keith Coleman, 39, a Texas 10 Most Wanted Fugitive, during a February 23 traffic stop in Waco.

DPS special agents coordinated with U.S. Marshals Lone Star Fugitive Task Force members and Texas Highway Patrol troopers for the stop.

The McLennan County Sheriff’s Office arrested Coleman in September 2023 for indecency with a child by sexual contact. Authorities took him into custody again on December 10, 2025, for violating a bond and protective order before he bonded out. A McLennan County warrant issued on December 29, 2025, for indecency with a child by sexual contact made him a most-wanted target.

Neither arrest was associated with a Crime Stoppers tip, so no reward will be paid out in these two cases, according to state officials. Funded by the Governor’s Public Safety Office, Texas Crime Stoppers offers cash rewards for tips leading to arrests of Texas 10 Most Wanted fugitives, sex offenders, or criminal illegal immigrants.

Law enforcement agencies have captured 11 such offenders in 2026 so far, including eight sex offenders and one gang member. Rewards have totaled $13,500 for those tips.

Tipsters qualify for rewards by calling the Crime Stoppers hotline at 1-800-252-TIPS (8477), submitting information through the DPS website, or using the Facebook “SUBMIT A TIP” link under the “About” section. All tips remain anonymous, with providers receiving a tip number.

DPS investigators partner with local law enforcement to choose fugitives for the Texas 10 Most Wanted lists, available with photos on the DPS website. Officials warn against attempting to apprehend these subjects, considered armed and dangerous.
