Agents from the Texas Rangers are investigating a shooting by local law enforcement that claimed the life of a suspect on Monday night.

Sanger police needed assistance with a “welfare check and possible domestic disturbance involving a male suspect with a weapon” at 11:17 p.m.  They asked deputies from Denton County to assist, the Denton County Sheriff’s Office (DCSO) said.

The disturbance call was reported in the 300 block of Lake Ridge Drive. Police from Pilot Point and Krum were also called in to help. A Sanger police officer contacted the armed suspect, and a struggle ensued, at which point a Denton County deputy shot the suspect, according to DCSO.

The man was later declared dead. No other information was released.

The incident in Denton County comes amid a widespread crime wave in Dallas-Fort Worth, centered on Dallas in particular, where the city council and other political leaders have declined to prioritize law enforcement.
