Baseball legend and former Braves pitcher John Rocker weighed in on the immolation of a woman on a New York Subway.
“An illegal burned someone to death on the New York City subway today [.] I tried telling you all 25 years ago and got cancelled for it [.] WE NEED MASS DEPORTATIONS IMMEDIATELY,” Rocker posted X on December 22nd.
Attached to his tweet was a Rocker fancam that has circulated Twitter for several years. The video opens with a woman on the TV show Survivor calling Rocker a “homophobical [sic] racist.”

“If you were a man, I’d knock your teeth out,” the retired MLB player responds.
Then a highlight reel of some of Rocker’s best athletic moments fills the screen while audio of a newscaster reading some previous comments from the athlete plays. “Imagine having to take the 7 train looking like you’re (in) Beirut next to some kid with purple hair… it’s depressing,” the newsman quotes Rocker as saying.
“The biggest thing I don’t like about New York are the foreigners,” Rocker said. “I’m not a big fan of foreigners,” the newscaster continues.
Then the news audio cuts out and is replaced by some hard rock music with a pronounced guitar riff. A visual sequence follows this moment and it shows Rocker fist bumping in victory and celebrating with teammates.
The comments the video shows are a sample of larger, similar set of cultural criticisms Rocker was attacked for after sharing his observations with a reporter from Rolling Stone in response to a question about whether he would ever move to New York to play for the Yankees or the Mets in late 1999.
Referring to the backlash he faced, he posted a few moments later “THE MEDIA CANCELLED ME 25 YEARS AGO 𝕏 HAS GIVEN ME MY VOICE BACK THANK YOU @elonmusk .”Rocker’s account indicates he joined X in October 2024.
He followed up his post by adding, “I thought it would take 4 years of Kamala for the migrant issue to get as bad as it is in Europe After what happened on the NYC subway today I think we’re pretty much there.”
The next morning he again broached the immigration issue. “The border is wide open. Crime is through the roof. The president is pardoning r*pists and child m*lesters Women’s sports is under attack by men in wigs. People are getting burned to a crisp on the NY subway. Russians are getting bombed in Russia with US weapons. Men are walking around in high heels. The Vice President is an alcoholic. The President has been dead for years. January 20th, please come sooner,” he said.
His last post on this matter, as of the time of this writing, came in the afternoon of December 13th. “The NYC subway fire victim’s name was Amelia Carter. She was 29 years old. More blood on Joe Biden’s hands. Rest in peace, Amelia. Another American’s life cut short by violent criminal monsters Biden let into our country. Enough is enough,” Rocker posted.
This post was flagged with a Community Note, a crowd-sourced program on X that is supposed to allow peers to fact check or provide more context to each other’s posts. The note read, “The identity of the subway burning victim has NOT been released yet by the NYPD.” It included a link to a CNN story on the Subway slaying.
Just two days after the killing, neither police nor the legacy broadcasters have reported the victim’s identity. Newsweek reported that the image of Amelia Carter floating around social media is AI-generated and her name and background story are likewise fabricated.
The Dallas Express investigated the image and also found that the popular AI-image detectors such as WasItAI? mark the image as totally or partly AI-generated.
The attack is said by Police to have occurred around 7:30 a.m. on the F train in Brooklyn, New York on December 22nd.
The alleged assailant is reported to be 33-year-old Sebastian Zapeta-Calil, an illegal immigrant from Guatemala. Zapeta had reportedly been deported in 2018, although he subsequently re-entered the country on an unknown date and through unknown means, per CNN.
New York City Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch described the case as “one of the most depraved crimes one person could possibly commit against another human being”on the 22nd. Police investigators indicated to CBS that Zapeta and the victim had no interactions and did not know each other,
Zapeta has been charged with murder and is awaiting trial.
Rocker pitched for the Atlanta Braves, Cleveland Indians, Texas Rangers, and Tampa Bay Devil Rays from 1998 to 2003. He is from Statesboro, Georgia.
