A Texas man faces murder charges after allegedly stabbing a 63-year-old woman and kidnapping a toddler in a case that triggered a multi-state manhunt.
Raymond Isaac Carmona, 20, was arrested in Missouri just seven minutes after an AMBER Alert broadcast, demonstrating the swift effectiveness of modern tracking technology in child abduction cases.
The incident began on January 31 when police in Mansfield, Texas, discovered Andrea Mata Colgrove dead in her Cotton Drive home. The medical examiner determined she died from a neck stab wound.
Authorities believe Carmona killed Colgrove between January 30 and 31 before stealing her vehicle. He then allegedly abducted a 4-year-old child to aid his escape.
The relationship between Carmona, Colgrove, and the child remains unclear.
At 2:13 p.m., Texas authorities issued an AMBER Alert linking the abduction to the Mansfield homicide. Missouri State Highway Patrol’s license plate readers spotted the vehicle by 2:20 p.m. in Ozark, Missouri.
Officers arrested Carmona without incident and safely recovered the child.
A Tarrant County grand jury indicted Carmona on February 6 on murder, aggravated kidnapping, and theft charges. His combined bonds total $1,007,500.
Carmona remains in Tarrant County Jail awaiting his February 23 court appearance in the 485th District Court.
The case highlights how interstate coordination and technology can rapidly resolve dangerous situations involving missing children.
