An illegal alien from Mexico faces federal charges in the Northern District of Georgia after law enforcement seized more than 130 pounds of methamphetamine, according to the U.S. Department of Justice.

Edgar Zamarron-Cobos, 30, was named in a criminal complaint on April 17, 2026, charging him with possession of methamphetamine with intent to distribute. Authorities describe him as an illegal alien from Mexico, according to an April 22 press release from the U.S. Attorney’s Office, Northern District of Georgia.

The arrest adds to a series of federal drug cases in the Northern District of Georgia involving individuals illegally present in the United States.

On April 13, 2026, the U.S. Attorney’s Office announced charges against Alberto Ortiz-Osornio, described as an illegal alien from Mexico, and his associate, Marco Antonio Solano-Posadas. They face counts of drug-trafficking conspiracy and possession of methamphetamine with intent to distribute after agents seized approximately 85 kilograms — nearly 200 pounds — of the drug in Norcross, Georgia.

In that case, DEA agents observed Ortiz-Osornio place two large 12-gallon bins in his car at his Norcross residence on April 3, 2026. He drove a short distance to meet Solano-Posadas and transferred the bins. Gwinnett County Sheriff’s Office deputies stopped Solano-Posadas’ vehicle and found about 30 kilograms of methamphetamine inside the bins. A subsequent search of Ortiz-Osornio’s residence uncovered four more bins with an additional 55 kilograms.

Federal officials have noted multiple recent cases in the district.

In March 2026, Benjamin Alberto Lozoya, a convicted felon, and Arturo Carreno-Rivera, described as an illegal alien from Mexico, faced charges after seizures of fentanyl, methamphetamine, and firearms in Norcross.

The Zamarron-Cobos case was announced within the past day via the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of Georgia. A criminal complaint alleges the possession of methamphetamine with the intent to distribute, though full details of the seizure circumstances remain limited in public announcements.

Defendants in such cases are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
