A time that should have been marked by celebration and worship for Christians was marred in bloodshed and violence this weekend. The Dallas Police Department told The Dallas Express about multiple shootings and homicides across the city over the Easter holiday.

Due to the overwhelming number of reported incidents, The Dallas Express has had to split this coverage into two parts, Saturday and Sunday.

Saturday Crime Reports

Hit and Run Injures Officer on S Walton Walker Boulevard

A Dallas police officer was injured early morning Saturday while working a car crash.

The incident happened at about 1 a.m. on April 8 at S Walton Walker Boulevard and Keeneland Parkway.

Police said a vehicle came through the flare line at the scene, forcing the officer to jump over a railing to avoid being hit.

The officer suffered a broken leg and was taken to a local hospital for treatment.

The driver fled the scene, but the vehicle was found, according to police.

Dallas police are still working to identify the driver.

The investigation is ongoing.

Shooting on Ingersoll Street

Police are investigating a shooting that occurred on Saturday at about 2:35 a.m. Officers responded to a shooting call on April 8 in the 2600 block of Ingersoll Street.

A teenager was shot in the foot, according to police. The teen was transported to a local hospital, and the injuries are believed to be non-life threatening, police said. There is no information on a suspect at this time. The investigation remains ongoing.

The shooting occurred in District 6, which is represented by Dallas City Council Member Omar Narvaez, a previous recipient of The Dallas ExpressCrime Boss title.

Fatal Shooting on Leigh Ann Drive

One man is dead, and another man is on the run after a fight escalated into a deadly shooting early Saturday morning.

Officers responded to the shooting call on April 8, around 3 a.m., according to a news release.

Two men got into a fight, and the victim had his gun taken away from him by the suspect, who then shot the victim, the police said.

The suspect then fled the scene, according to police.

The victim was transported to a nearby hospital but died from his injuries, police said.

The shooting took place in the 8100 block of Leigh Ann Drive, which is located in District 8, represented by Dallas City Council Member Tennell Atkins.

Shooting on Frankford Road

Dallas police are searching for a suspect after they say a man was left injured on Saturday morning, suffering from a gunshot wound.

At about 4:40 a.m. on April 8, officers responded to a shooting call in the 4600 block of Frankford Road.

When officers arrived at the scene, they discovered a man had been shot in the leg by an unknown suspect. The man was transported to a local hospital where his injuries are believed to be non-life threatening.

The investigation remains ongoing.

The shooting incident occurred in District 12, Dallas City Council Member Cara Mendelsohn’s district.

Shooting on Jeffries Street

A man was sent to a local hospital after an unknown suspect shot him on Saturday at about 8:15 a.m., according to police.

Officers responded to a shooting call on April 8 in the 2600 block of Jeffries Street.

When officers arrived, they found a man suffering from a gunshot wound. He was shot in the ankle, police said. The man was transported to a local hospital, and his injuries are believed to be non-life threatening.

Police do not have any information on a suspect at this time.

This remains an ongoing investigation.

The shooting took place in District 7, which is represented by Dallas City Council Member Adam Bazaldua, who has received The Dallas ExpressCrime Boss title multiple times.

Shooting on Marfa Avenue

Dallas police responded to a shooting Saturday morning at about 9:23 a.m. that left one man wounded.

The shooting call was in the 2100 block of Marfa Avenue.

When officers arrived at the scene, they located a man who had been shot in the arm.

After a preliminary investigation, officers discovered the man had gotten into an argument with an unknown suspect, and the dispute had escalated, police said.

The victim was transported to a local hospital, where he was treated for non-life-threatening injuries, according to police.

This remains an ongoing investigation.

The shooting took place in District 4, which is represented by past Crime Boss winner Dallas City Council Member Carolyn King Arnold.

Fatal Shooting on S Polk Street

Adding to the Saturday night violence, another shooting left a man dead late Saturday evening.

The shooting occurred at about 11:10 p.m., according to police.

Dallas police were called on April 8 to the 8800 block of S Polk Street. When police arrived at the scene, they discovered a man had been shot by an unknown suspect.

Police said the suspect fled the scene. The victim was transported to a local hospital, where he died from his injuries.

The victim, who family members identified as 24-year-old Andy Rangel, was shot in the neck after the argument.

“I just turned, and I just see his face and he was full of blood,” said Evelynn Porter, Rangel’s girlfriend, as she broke into tears Sunday. “Every time I close my eyes, I see it.”

Porter told local news outlet WFAA Dallas that she was just feet away from Rangel when he was shot.

She explained that she went looking for help, finding officers at a nearby gas station.

“He was just losing way too much blood,” said Porter. “He just looked so helpless. I just wish I could’ve done more.”

The investigation remains ongoing.
