Dallas police have opened a criminal investigation into their top civilian spokeswoman after an alleged confrontation with a motorist involving a department-issued vehicle equipped with emergency lights and sirens, WFAA reported Friday.

Allison Hudson, assistant director of media relations and community affairs, is the subject of the department’s Public Integrity Unit inquiry. DPD confirmed the investigation was criminal but did not provide WFAA details about the allegations.

“I can confirm there is an open investigation,” DPD wrote to the station. Asked whether it was criminal, the department responded, “You are correct.”

Authorities had not arrested or charged Hudson as of WFAA’s Friday evening update, which reported no determination of wrongdoing.

Alleged use of emergency lights

She allegedly activated the vehicle’s emergency lights, pulled over another driver and presented herself as a police officer, photographer Avi S. Adelman wrote in a public Facebook post, citing unnamed sources.

Hudson does not hold a Texas peace officer license, the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement told WFAA.

The motorist reported the confrontation at DPD’s Southeast Patrol Division, and investigators took possession of the vehicle, WFAA reported, citing multiple sources.

The driver complained Hudson impersonated an officer; she cited malfunctioning lights and denied intentionally activating them, CBS News Texas reported, citing sources.

Chief acknowledges investigation

Police Chief Daniel Comeaux acknowledged the investigation at a Friday news conference but declined to provide details before its completion, WFAA reported.

“DPD is investigating and we will not comment on the allegations during the investigation,” City Manager Kim Tolbert’s office told the station.

Dallas County District Attorney John Creuzot said DPD had not contacted his office about the case when WFAA asked Friday.

Hudson joined DPD in October 2025 after Comeaux recruited her and reports directly to the chief, WFAA reported.

Hudson previously addressed employee misconduct standards in a November 2025 interview with The Dallas Express about a separate internal investigation involving Dallas Police Association President Sr. Cpl. Jamie Castro.

“The Dallas Police Department expects every member of the organization to uphold the highest standards of integrity, professionalism, and accountability,” she said then.
