The Dallas Police Department has released bodycam footage of an officer-involved shooting last week that wounded a 31-year-old man who was walking in the street armed with two firearms.
The incident unfolded Saturday evening in the 1200 block of Presidio Avenue in the Cedar Crest area of South Dallas after a 911 call around 5:13 p.m. reported a disturbance involving an active shooter, according to a department update.
A preliminary investigation indicates that before officers arrived, a disturbance erupted in the backyard of a residence listed for rent, during which a suspect fired a gun and then left the scene.
Officers reached the area about 5:20 p.m. and spotted the man in the street holding the weapons. They gave multiple verbal commands to drop them, but he did not comply, leading officers to fire their service weapons and strike him.
Police provided immediate medical aid until Dallas Fire-Rescue arrived and took the man to a local hospital, where he was treated for non-life-threatening injuries. No officers were hurt.
The man was identified as Oscar Saldana. He is expected to face charges of aggravated assault with a firearm after his hospital release, with additional charges pending. Investigators recovered multiple firearms at the scene.
In an effort to promote transparency, the department released portions of body-worn camera and surveillance video showing the events.
The shooting is under investigation by the Dallas Police Department’s Special Investigations Unit. The Dallas County District Attorney’s Office is conducting a separate independent probe, as required for all such cases, and the Office of Community Police Oversight has been informed.
Authorities noted that the details stem from a preliminary investigation and may evolve as forensic evidence, witness accounts, and more videos are examined. The case is documented under number 008318-2026.
“The Dallas Police Department is committed to transparency, accountability, and maintaining the trust of our community,” the update stated.
