Dallas County Inmate Dies at Local Hospital

A Dallas County inmate was in custody when he died, a representative from the Dallas County sheriff’s office told The Dallas Express.

Shamond Lewis, 24, was arrested and booked into the sheriff’s office for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon on September 22.

On September 23, Lewis was transported to Parkland Memorial Hospital after he had a medical episode at the Dallas County jail. Lewis remained at Parkland from September 23 to the time of his death.

On September 30, Lewis was pronounced dead at Parkland Memorial Hospital, according to a release provided to The Dallas Express.

The Dallas Express reached out to the Dallas County sheriff’s office for details and comments, but none had been received by press time.

Tarrant County Sheriff’s office is currently investigating the incident.
