Additional information concerning the person suspected to be behind a string of violent threats recently received by The Dallas Express suggests that the threats came from the son of a well-connected Dallas business owner with extensive left-wing political donations.

Last week, The Dallas Express and figures associated with the publication were violently threatened over email, with the person referencing shooting up the specific floor of the office building where The Dallas Express resides.

Further investigation revealed that the threats were allegedly politically motivated, and publicly available information suggested that the threats originated from a local resident named Chris Reader, as previously reported by The Dallas Express.

Documents suggest that the same Reader who threatened the newspaper also attended Southern Methodist University for his law degree, graduating and passing the bar exam in 2011. Currently, it appears that Reader is a Dallas resident with properties in the Oak Lawn and North Dallas neighborhoods.

The State Bar of Texas website recorded Reader’s place of business as the R&B Roofing company, of which his father, Douglas Reader, is the owner. Campaign finance documents show that Chris Reader listed himself as in-house counsel to R&B Roofing.

R&B Roofing has been contracted to assist in the construction of the Dallas Convention Center, Bass Performance Hall, and the Collin County Justice Center, among other buildings in the area.

Although an investigation is still ongoing by law enforcement officials, publicly available information suggests that Reader and his family are involved politically, donating primarily to Democrat candidates.

Both Douglas and Christopher Reader donated thousands of dollars to Colin Allred’s (D-TX) reelection campaign, according to FEC filings. The father also donated several thousand to the National Roofing Contractors Association Roof PAC, which has increasingly fueled Democrat campaigns in recent years.

Chris Reader also was seemingly licensed as a real estate agent from 2008 to 2020, but let his license expire after failing to maintain his continuing education requirements necessary to continue working in the field.

The threats The Dallas Express received were emailed from an account seemingly associated with Chris Reader, based upon publicly available information.

As previously reported, one of the emails read, “F**k you and your garbage rag,” with another message calling the organization a “right-trash ‘newspaper.’”

“Your children, and, all of those you hold dear will die,” a threat read, with another asking, “How badly do you want someone to hunt and slaughter you and your family?”

The suspect, reacting to an article about a parolee who shot two hospital employees in Dallas, asked, “I wonder how you would handle a violent parolee with a gun in your building … would it be more concerning if an armed shooter was on [your] floor?”

An investigation is ongoing and The Dallas Express has taken additional security measures to protect its staff.

So proud of the real reporting you are doing. This man needed to be called out for his egregious behavior and will hopefully pay a consequence

Just because you have money, title, position or power does not eliminate the wickedness in the heart of people. This man has a heart problem and until that’s resolved he’ll continue with his ungodly rants.

Amen. Money, licensure or position of responsibility doesn’t give you a pass or who use as lobbyists or donate campaign funds.

Grieve him to the State Bar. They have low tolerance for threats. Your lawyer will know how to do this.

If this is true this Snowflake needs to be in prison. Dallas has needed a publication like yours for 30 years. Glad you are here. Glad I found your publication.

It’s obvious by his democratic affiliation that he’s mentally challenged to say the least. Hopefully law enforcement will red flag him and raid his personal locations to confiscate any weapons before he actually acts on the threats

Goes to show you that intelligence and common sense are two different attributes in humans and they don’t always go together.
