The Dallas Police Department has organized a DWI program this July 4th weekend. Historically, every holiday weekend has increased cases of serious accidents due to intoxicated drivers.

Officers will be dispatched all over areas with recorded high volumes of DWI offenses and accidents to avoid or minimize such catastrophes this year.

The Dallas Police Department released an announcement cautioning people who plan to operate motor vehicles over the July 4th weekend. To avoid serious accidents and loss of life, people who plan to go out and drink are advised to have a plan, whether that includes using a designated driver or calling a taxi or rideshare service. If possible, people who are visiting a friend or relative are advised to spend the night.

Dallas PD reminds people to look out for those celebrating the July 4th weekend. If you see someone drinking and planning to drive a vehicle, take their keys away and never enter a car driven by someone intoxicated.

The Dallas Police Department further reminds residents that people caught driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs will face jail time. Driving under the influence can also lead to loss of life, property damage, potential medical costs, and increased insurance premiums.

If you are looking for activities to celebrate the July 4th Weekend, The Dallas Express compiled a list of events throughout the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex. The list is separated into three parts. View Part One, Part Two, and Part Three here. Be safe, have a plan, and Happy 4th of July!
