One person is dead and another is in the hospital after a car drove into a house in South Dallas on Sunday afternoon.

Dallas Fire-Rescue responded to a crash around 3:30 p.m. in the 6300 block of South Lancaster Road in Oak Cliff.

The car reportedly drove “all the way through” a home in the neighborhood, per WFAA.

According to WFAA, the driver of the car died at the scene, and the passenger was taken to a nearby hospital. The passenger’s condition is unknown.

Neither of the two people inside the house was injured from the crash.

Officials sent an urban search and rescue crew to the site to determine the home’s structural integrity. Following the assessment, the team determined that there was “not enough structural compromise to necessitate further action,” per CBS News.

The American Red Cross is helping the residents of the house.

So far, there is no indication of what caused the driver to crash, and officials have released no other details about the incident.

The City of Dallas reports roughly 35,000 motor vehicle accidents each year, with an estimated 4% resulting in serious injury to someone involved, according to Amaro Law Firm.

Traffic crashes have increased by at least 11% since 2018 and roughly 49% over the past decade, per Amaro Law Firm.

Last week, 15-year-old Landon Bourque was struck by a truck while biking to his first day of school, as previously reported by The Dallas Express. Despite first aid efforts performed by the driver of the vehicle, Bourque died at the scene.

Following his death, a memorial was placed at Independence Parkway at George Washington Drive, where the incident occurred, per The Dallas Express.

Nolan Swyres, a friend of Bourque’s, told NBC 5 DFW that Bourque loved making people laugh.

“He was always trying to be happy, always trying to lighten the mood,” Swyres said. “He never really brought anyone down. He was just someone I was glad to have around.”
