A teenager was killed while riding his bicycle early Wednesday morning, McKinney police said.

The high school student was struck by a car around 5:30 a.m. near Roach Middle School at Independence Parkway and George Washington Drive. The location is near the city line between Frisco and McKinney.

The driver stopped and tried to render aid, police said.

The 15-year-old student was identified as Landon Bourque, who attended Heritage High School in the Frisco Independent School District. He was scheduled to attend his first day of class for the 2023-2023 school year on Wednesday.

“Landon was a beloved member of the campus community,” Frisco ISD said in a statement published by NBC 5 DFW. “His loss will be felt by the Coyote family, and our thoughts go out to the Bourque family and loved ones.”

Roach Middle School asked on social media for patience during school drop-offs, saying, “An accident has occurred near Roach Middle School impacting the flow of traffic to our campus.”

“Our hearts go out to everyone involved in this tragedy,” McKinney Police Department Public Information Officer Carla Marion Reeves said.
