A man was killed Monday afternoon after losing control of his vehicle and hurtling over the side of a Dallas overpass.

The driver, identified as 45-year-old Moises Sanchez, was traveling southbound on N. Walton Walker Boulevard just before 3:45 p.m. when he apparently lost control of the vehicle and “vaulted over” the side of the overpass that crosses Singleton Boulevard, The Dallas Morning News reported. The car struck a support column and landed upside down on Singleton Boulevard.

The driver died at the scene before paramedics arrived. Three other vehicles were damaged in the incident, but no other injuries were reported.

“Within seconds, as soon as I heard the brakes, then I saw the car flying. I had enough time to barely move up some. Within two seconds of me moving up, it hit that quick,” Mauricio Herrera, a witness to the crash, told Fox 4 KDFW.

Police are still investigating what caused Sanchez to lose control of his vehicle.

Last month, The Dallas Express reported on another deadly incident in the city when a man fell from a roadway overpass near I-30 at Cesar Chavez Boulevard. A vehicle traveling on the freeway below struck the man, who was later pronounced dead on the scene.

Earlier this month, DX reported that the City of Dallas’ latest $1.25 billion bond proposal devotes less than $9 million to the “Vision Zero” initiative, equivalent to less than 2% of the $500 million earmarked for streets and transportation. According to the City of Dallas website, the project aims to “eliminate all traffic-related deaths and reach a 50% reduction in severe injuries from crashes by 2030.”
