A man is dead after he fell from a roadway overpass and was struck by a car traveling on the freeway below on Wednesday morning in Dallas.

The Dallas County Sheriff’s Office responded to calls of an accident near I-30 at Cesar Chavez Boulevard at 2:30 a.m. on January 10. The deputies reported that an older man had fallen from Cesar Chavez Boulevard, which crosses over the highway, onto I-30, according to WFAA.

The unidentified driver who ran over the man remained on the scene until officials arrived and will not be charged in the incident.

The victim was pronounced dead on the scene. A portion of westbound I-30 was shut down for several hours while officials investigated the incident, and it was reopened just before 6 a.m. In the meantime, traffic was diverted to I-45.

Law enforcement officers have not revealed the identity of the victim.

The City of Dallas recently announced plans to spend $27 million of taxpayer money on roadway and pedestrian safety initiatives in Southern Dallas, as reported by The Dallas Express.

This incident is the most recent early-morning crash resulting in a fatality this week in Dallas. Three people were killed in a single-vehicle collision early Tuesday morning after the vehicle slammed into a tree, as previously reported by The Dallas Express.
