Farmers Branch Mayor Robert Dye submitted his resignation to city leaders on Monday, citing “personal reasons,” the City announced Tuesday.

Dye had six months remaining in his second term. He has been the city’s mayor for more than five years.

The now-former mayor’s photo and information were removed from the City’s contact information website page soon after the announcement and replaced with a label where his photo used to be, which reads, “Position of Mayor — currently vacant.”

Dye’s resignation will go into effect upon Farmers Branch’s city council approval or eight days after submitting his resignation, which would be November 8.

In an open letter to the city, Dye referenced some items the City accomplished during his two terms, which included new parks, a solar farm, and various tax rate cuts.

Earlier in June, the Farmers Branch City Council announced the creation of a commission of citizens to study data from the 2020 Census and recommend changes to the existing boundaries to ensure an equal number of citizens in each district.

Mayor Pro Tem David Merritt will preside over city council meetings in Dye’s absence. Merritt was first elected in 2021, and his current term expires in 2024.

Farmers Branch City Council will make an appointment to fill the remainder of Mayor Dye’s term during a future meeting, per the city charter.
