Plans for a Dallas skatepark are in motion, as the skatepark renderings were presented to the public last Thursday.

The skatepark would be the first-ever public skatepark in Dallas. The planned location is 45,600 square feet at Bachman Park, 3500 W. Northwest Highway, close to the Love Field airport.

With Team Pain Skateparks brought on as designers, construction is set to begin next year, but the exact timeline of construction completion and the opening is still to be determined.

The Bachman Lake Park location is known historically for its skating. In fact, there was a ramp at the park that claimed national fame in the 1980s known as the “clown ramp.”

President of Team Pain Tim Payne hopes to continue this legacy. “It’s with high hopes that the community in Dallas makes the Bachman Lake Park a historical destination that’s recognized throughout the world,” he said.

Payne continued, “We designed the area to be really long so it captures a lot of tricks that can be performed back-to-back.”

The park will feature a street area, a plaza, a bowl, a flow bowl, and a snake run. There will be seating for over 100 people and structures to provide adequate shade. It will also have restrooms, bike racks, trashcans, and bottle fillers.

Rollerskater and current Dallas resident, Lauren Hill, told The Dallas Express, “I am excited to finally have a skatepark that is close by and not on the outskirts of the city. It’s hard to have consistent practice when it’s a whole ordeal to get out to the park.”

The location is ideal for skating in the hot Texas summer. Payne said, “What’s really nice is the whole skate park has got natural shade around the whole north end and the west end of the park provided by the trees.”
