Artificial intelligence is playing an increasingly influential role in American politics, from campaign strategy and voter outreach to national security and public policy. A panel discussion later this month in North Texas will bring together elected officials and technology experts to examine how AI is shaping the future of democracy.
The event, titled “AI in Politics,” is hosted by the American Jewish Conservatives a Dallas-based organization, and will take place on Tuesday, January 27, at Hooky Entertainment Addison.
The discussion comes as Texas and federal officials increasingly focus on artificial intelligence as a matter of public policy and national security. Governor Greg Abbott recently met with U.S. ambassadors to discuss AI’s role in defense manufacturing, energy infrastructure, and technological innovation, underscoring the growing importance of the issue at every level of government.
The evening will begin with legislative updates from Beth Van Duyne, a Republican representing Texas’s 24th Congressional District, and Tan Parker, a Republican state senator representing District 12. Both are expected to address how emerging technologies intersect with public policy, national security, and governance at the federal and state levels.
They will be joined for a moderated panel discussion by private-sector and academic experts, including Alexander Sicular, a health AI strategic advisor and former Google executive, and Dr. Tim McDonough, a clinical professor at Southern Methodist University who teaches artificial intelligence, data analytics, and machine learning. The discussion will be moderated by Alexander David McMath, managing principal at Atelier Strategy & Development.
Organizers say the event is intended to explore how AI-driven tools are already being used in political campaigns and governance, along with the ethical and constitutional questions raised by rapid advances in data analytics and digital persuasion.
Topics are expected to include the benefits and risks of AI-assisted campaigning, the balance between innovation and individual liberty, and how policymakers and voters can better understand technologies that are increasingly shaping civic life.
