Texas Governor Greg Abbott announced the appointment of Ashley Wysocki to the 162nd Judicial District Court in Dallas County, on February 6, 2023.

The appointment will be in effect until December 31, 2024, or until a successor is elected and qualified. Wysocki will be subject to approval by the Texas Senate, which will have to confirm the appointment by a two-thirds vote.

The position opened after the previous judge, Maricela Moore, successfully won her bid for a seat on the Fifth District Court of Appeals. Moore narrowly defeated the Republican candidate, Emily Miskel, winning by less than half a point.

Wysocki is an experienced Dallas-based attorney and mediator with an extensive background in family law, commercial law, and civil litigation, according to the press release.

She is an active member of various professional organizations, including the American Bar Association, the Dallas Bar Association, and the State Bar of Texas, where she is part of the Family Law Section.

Additionally, she has served on the board of directors of the American Red Cross South Plains Regional Chapter.

After receiving a Bachelor of Arts in Anthropology from the University of Texas at Austin, Wysocki went on to earn a Master of Business Administration and a Juris Doctor from Texas Tech University.

Judge Wysocki has spoken openly about her successful battle against cancer, explaining to Attorney at Law Magazine how “I really turned to God to get me through this.”

Wysocki had been previously appointed as judge of the 44th District Court on February 23, 2021, but lost her election bid on November 8, 2022, defeated by Veretta Frazier in the heavily blue Dallas County.

Prior to that appointment, Abbott had made Wysocki the judge of Dallas County’s 254th District Court following the death of incumbent Judge Darlene Ewing.

At that time, she told Texas Scorecard, “The people of Dallas County deserve stability, consistency, and dedication to an unbiased application of the law.”

Gov. Abbott also recently appointed former Dallas County Commissioner J.J. Koch to Criminal District Court No. 2, as reported by The Dallas Express.

Koch had been defeated in his re-election campaign by Andrew Sommerman after the county commissioners court’s redrawing of his district left it Democrat-leaning.

Why even have an election? Let the dictator decide who the electorate should have to serve them.
