For undefeated boxing champion Floyd Mayweather, making Dallas the headquarters of his fitness and health portfolio company just made sense.

“We used to have corporate offices in Los Angeles, and we had our whole team there,” he told The Dallas Express in an email interview. “As with many companies, we started offering remote work options, and we were able to employ people from all over the country to get even better talent. Then, as we were thinking about where to plant a new office space, we wanted somewhere more central so that our remote employees could fly in frequently to all meet together.”

Now headquartered in Plano, Mayweather Fitness Holdings left Los Angeles in 2022. It also has an office at The Star in Frisco.

“We now have an amazing space in the Dallas Cowboys Formation compound, and we love this,” Mayweather said. “It has great alignment with everything we are doing, a great sports franchise and a great fitness franchise all in the same area. As we bring in franchise candidates, it is an impressive place to be and as we train our franchisees, it’s a great area to be in.”

Mayweather Fitness Holdings is the parent company of Mayweather Boxing + Fitness and KickHouse.

“Dallas — and, in particular, Frisco and Plano — are really fast-growing areas and we have a number of Mayweather Boxing + Fitness and KickHouse gyms there,” Mayweather said. “It’s truly a hub for everything Mayweather Fitness — both gym locations and a corporate office. We love Dallas and we love building businesses here in the city.”

Mayweather, 46, founded the parent company in 2017 with CEO James Williams, and vice chairman and franchisee Burrel Lee Wilks III. About five years later, Mayweather acquired KickHouse.

“We have always had a corporate strategy to build Mayweather Fitness into a global brand,” he explained to The Dallas Express. “Our core business is our gym franchise, which started with Mayweather Boxing + Fitness, and we are continuing to grow rapidly. In developing Mayweather Boxing + Fitness, we created an incredible team and support infrastructure around boutique fitness franchising and realized there was an opportunity not only to continue to build Mayweather Boxing + Fitness gyms but to also acquire other amazing systems.”

In Texas, KickHouse has locations in Frisco and McKinney.

“The most important thing is partnering with the best team,” Mayweather said. “Both for Mayweather Boxing + Fitness and KickHouse, it’s all about bringing on the right people onto the teams who can help franchisees grow and open studios in the most efficient and best ways. I have the same exact engagement in both systems, which is on the strategic and corporate level, and making sure my team on the ground is doing everything right to build successful franchises in both systems.”

Mayweather Fitness Holdings operates more than 100 locations across the country, including generating more than $35 million in corporate revenue. The company announced in January that it has been ranked first in Entrepreneur’s 2024 Franchise 500 boxing category.

“Texas is on an overall movement towards health and fitness, which is great to see,” Mayweather told DX. “We are capitalizing on that with Mayweather studios all across the state of Texas — Dallas, Houston, Austin, and more coming. We love being part of the growth in Texas and helping lead charge of people getting into gyms, working out, and being really healthy.”

Dallas is “at the forefront of that movement,” Mayweather said.

The move towards health and fitness could not come at a better time, as the country battles an obesity epidemic. Texas is one of 22 states that has reached an adult obesity rate of 35% or above.

“There are fast-growing neighborhoods where people want to move to and be part of an amazing community and state. It’s great and rewarding to us to be able to contribute to the growth happening here, when it is so positive and focused around health and fitness.”

Meanwhile, the boxing champ who compiled a 50-0 record continues to expand.

“We are building lots of new businesses under the Mayweather Fitness umbrella, with everything from nutritional supplements to retail boxing gloves, to video games and other consumer products,” he said. “Mayweather Fitness will be an all-encompassing and global phenomenon. The gym franchise will always be at the core of what we do and will be the foundation for launching new businesses, while new businesses help build awareness and traffic to each of these gyms.”

A native of Grand Rapids, Michigan, Mayweather retired from professional boxing in 2017.
