San Antonio-based grocer H-E-B has purchased land east of Dallas in Rockwall as it continues its expansion in North Texas.
The Dallas Morning News reported that H-E-B bought two parcels of land totaling 12 acres on the southwest corner of I-30 and John King Boulevard. H-E-B’S spokeswoman Mabrie Jackson confirmed the grocer’s latest purchase but revealed that the company has not yet decided when construction will begin.
Located just east of Honda Cars of Rockwall and Clay Cooley Hyundai of Rockwall, the land marks the family-and-employee-owned company’s latest move to expand its operation in North Texas.
The San Antonio-based grocer had announced in March 2021 that it planned to expand in the Dallas-Fort Worth area.
“We’re excited to say that the time has come for us to bring our flagship H-E-B banner to Dallas-Fort Worth,” said Stephen Butt, president of H-E-B’s Central Market division based in Dallas.
H-E-B recently bought 19.78 acres of land on the southeast corner of Frontier Parkway and the Dallas North Tollway in Prosper. The Prosper land is just 2 miles from H-E-B’s rival Kroger, which began operating in the area in 2016.
The grocery chain will open two stores in Plano and Frisco this fall. H-E-B bought the land for the Frisco store in 2016; it is located on the northeast corner of Legacy Drive and Main Street.
H-E-B has owned the Plano site, located on the southwest corner of Preston Road and Spring Creek Parkway, since 2012. The stores are 9 miles apart and straddle the Dallas North Tollway. H-E-B also has two more stores currently under construction in Collin County.
With over 400 stores in Texas, H-E-B is the largest grocer in the state. The retailing giant has opened stores in Waxahachie, Ennis, Corsicana, Cleburne, Granbury, Burleson, and Hudson Oaks. H-E-B’s stores in Texas and Mexico generated over $36 billion in 2021.

We are grateful for the store in Waxahachie, and will be grateful for the closer stores in Firsco and Plano. If an HEB is built in Rockwall we will be 16 miles from a wonderful HEB facility. We will be driving to Waxahachie this coming Tuesday. Mr. Stephen Butt, I cannot say Thank You enough. Long story short, I was raised in Waco and the HEB at South Gate was our mainstay grocery store. So many of your store products are better than national brands, and less expensive. Thank You again.
