19 DFW Billionaires Shine On ‘Forbes 400’ List

According to the 2024 Forbes list of the 400 richest Americans, 19 billionaires live in the Dallas-Fort Worth area.

This year’s “Forbes 400” list highlights the growing wealth of America’s elite, with a collective net worth of $5.4 trillion, an increase of $1 trillion since 2023.

Among some standout names is Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones, whose net worth has climbed to $15.2 billion, placing him at No. 48 nationally. Meanwhile, Walmart heiress Alice Walton of Fort Worth holds the current title of the richest person in the Dallas-Fort Worth area, with an impressive net worth of $89.2 billion, significantly up from her listed net worth of $56.7 billion last year.

Elon Musk, now newly residing in Austin, tops the national list for the third consecutive year with a fortune listed at $244 billion, despite a $7 billion decline in his overall net worth from 2023.

Newcomer Lyndal Stephens Greth, chair of Endeavor Energy Resources, has a net worth of $32.3 billion, making her the second wealthiest in DFW and the 28th richest in the U.S. According to CultureMap Dallas, her wealth surged following the recent sale of the company for approximately $26 billion.

Other notable Dallas billionaires who made the Forbes 400 list include:

  • Andy Beal, a banking and real estate magnate from Dallas, occupies the No. 74 position nationally, with an estimated net worth of $12 billion, down from $13.8 billion.
  • Ken Fisher, a prominent money manager based in Dallas, is ranked 86th nationally with a net worth of $11.2 billion, rising from $7.1 billion in 2023.
  • Hotel and investment expert Robert Rowling from Dallas is tied for 126th nationally with an estimated net worth of $8.6 billion, an increase from $7.5 billion last year.
  • Ray Lee Hunt, active in oil and real estate, ranks No. 176 in the U.S. with a net worth of $6.9 billion, down from $7.2 billion.
  • David Bonderman of Fort Worth and Kelcy Warren from Dallas tied for No. 184, with estimated net worths of $6.7 billion, up from $5.7 billion and $4.6 billion, respectively.
  • Robert Bass, an oil and investment tycoon from Fort Worth, is ranked 204th nationally with a net worth of $5.3 billion, up from $4.9 billion.
  • Mark Cuban, media mogul and owner of the Dallas Mavericks, ties for 230th with an estimated net worth of $5.7 billion, up from $5.2 billion.
  • H. Ross Perot Jr., a notable figure in real estate from Dallas, holds the No. 288 spot nationally with a net worth of $4.6 billion, rising from $3.7 billion.
  • Margot Birmingham Perot, the widow of tech and real estate entrepreneur H. Ross Perot Sr., ranks 247th nationally with a net worth of $5.3 billion, an increase from $4.9 billion.
  • Trevor Rees-Jones, an oil and gas executive from Dallas, tied for 256th nationally with a net worth of $5.1 billion, up from $4.9 billion.
  • Carl Thoma, co-founder of a private equity firm, and Steven Udvar-Hazy, founder in the airplane leasing industry from Westlake, tie for No. 308 with net worths of $4.4 billion, up from $3.5 billion and $3.8 billion, respectively.
  • Sid Bass ranks 359th nationally with an estimated net worth of $3.7 billion, down from $3.9 billion. Ray Davis, an oil and gas entrepreneur from Dallas, is ranked No. 385 with a net worth of $3.5 billion, up from $2.9 billion.

Dallas and its residents have continued to rank highly in various recently published reports in terms of wealth.

A recent SmartAsset study revealed that Texas is experiencing a significant influx of high-income earners, ranking second in the nation for the “net inflow of affluent households.”

Additionally, according to a report from NBC News published in May, Dallas is ranked as the 22nd “wealthiest city globally.”
