A documented Fort Worth gang member has been sentenced to 50 years in state prison after pleading guilty to possessing methamphetamine discovered during a traffic stop, according to the Tarrant County District Attorney’s Office.

Demorris Albright, 42, was pulled over by Fort Worth police for a minor traffic violation when officers located a white bag inside his vehicle. Testing later confirmed the substance to be methamphetamine, leading to his arrest at the scene, per Hoodline.

Assistant District Attorney Michael Ferry prosecuted the case, and investigator Sean Wheatley led the investigation, according to a sentencing bulletin released by the DA’s office.

Tarrant County District Attorney Phil Sorrells praised law enforcement following Albright’s sentencing.

“Thanks to the Fort Worth Police Department for their work on this case and for their commitment to keeping our community safe,” Sorrells posted on Facebook.

The DA’s bulletin stated that Albright pleaded guilty to possession with intent to deliver methamphetamine. His guilty plea prevented the need for a trial. Texas law carries harsh penalties for high-volume methamphetamine cases, particularly when the defendant has documented gang ties or prior convictions.

Authorities have said that methamphetamine trafficking remains one of the most persistent drivers of violent crime across North Texas.

The Dallas Express reached out to the Tarrant County District Attorney’s Office for additional information.
