President Donald Trump beamed with pride as he was inaugurated as the 47th President of the United States, marking his return to the White House for a second, non-consecutive term. The ceremony took place indoors in the Rotunda of the U.S. Capitol due to cold weather conditions.
President Trump was sworn in by Chief Justice John Roberts. Trump’s wife, Melania, was by his side.
JD Vance, the former U.S. Senator from Ohio, was sworn in as Vice President by Justice Brett Kavanaugh.
The inauguration was attended by former Presidents Barack Obama, George W. Bush, and Bill Clinton, along with their spouses. Notable celebrities, including Amber Rose, Dana White, and Caitlyn Jenner, were also present. The event featured performances by Carrie Underwood, who sang “America the Beautiful,” and Christopher Macchio, who performed “The Star-Spangled Banner.” Subsequent inaugural events included performances by the Village People, Kid Rock, and Billy Ray Cyrus, Fox News reported.
In his inaugural address, President Trump declared, “The golden age of America begins now,” signaling a new era for the nation. He emphasized that “the decline of America is over,” reflecting his vision for the country’s resurgence.
Shortly after taking office, he declared a national emergency along the southern border, vowing to halt all illegal immigration. This action included canceling the CBP One application, which was previously used for work-eligible individuals entering the country, The Sun reported.
“I will send troops to the southern border to repel the disastrous invasion of our country. Under the orders I sign today, we will also be designating the cartels as foreign terrorist organizations,” he said.
President Trump’s immediate plans also involve significant changes within the federal government. He aims to replace certain civil servants and eliminate Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) programs.
These initiatives reflect his commitment to restructuring government operations in line with his administration’s priorities.
“Our sovereignty will be reclaimed. Our safety will be restored. The scales of justice will be rebalanced. The vicious, violent and unfair weaponization of the Justice Department and our government will end,” Trump told his 600-person audience of political leaders and guests from inside the U.S. Capitol Rotunda.
“We are at the start of a thrilling new era of national success,” he said.
President Trump also claimed divine intervention in helping him survive a gunman’s assassination attempt on the campaign trail last summer.
“I was saved by God,” Trump said, according to NBC News.
The inauguration events attracted a diverse group of new Trump supporters, including tech entrepreneurs and influencers, highlighting a shift in his support base. Celebrations featured a blend of cultural elements, such as mezcal and 1990s rap music, indicating a broader appeal across different demographics.
As President Trump embarks on his second term, the nation anticipates the implementation of his proposed policies and their impact on both domestic and international affairs. The administration’s approach to immigration, government restructuring, and foreign relations will be closely watched in the coming months.
