The week of May 6-10 marks National Teacher Appreciation Week to honor teachers across the country, and one local food chain is showing its love.

The iconic Whataburger fast food chain is hoping to make every teacher’s week with free breakfast, according to the chain.

Teachers will be able to get a free Taquito, Breakfast on a Bun, or a Honey Butter Chicken Biscuit. Teachers also will have the chance to get a WhataTeacher Table Tent while supplies last.

63 educators will also be selected to receive a $1,000 grant for their school.

The grant is part of Whataburger’s Feeding Student Success program, which focuses on charitable giving “at the intersection of food insecurity and education through college resource rooms, scholarships, and community philanthropy.”

“Teachers are true heroes,” Donna Tuttle, Whataburger vice president of marketing and communications, said in the press release. “Many of us still remember our favorite teacher, and the impact they made on our lives. Whataburger’s free breakfast offer and WhataTeacher grants are just small ways we try to say thank you for their powerful work.”

To receive the free treats, teachers must show their ID badge from 5 a.m. to 9 a.m. The promotion is available “system-wide” and for dine-in or drive-thru.

“Offering free breakfast during National Teacher Appreciation Week is just one small way we’re trying to make every school employee’s day a little brighter,” Scott Hudler, Whataburger’s senior vice president and chief marketing officer, said. “Our hope is that the 63 grants being awarded will provide teachers with additional resources they need and show a bit of gratitude for their hard work and dedication all year.”

Other stores and restaurants also have special giveaways in honor of National Teacher Appreciation Week.

Teachers can get a free chicken biscuit or chicken sandwich at participating Chick-fil-A locations on May 7, per the Association of Texas Professional Educators.

Teachers also can swing by participating McAlister’s Deli locations and grab a free tea throughout the week — no purchase necessary.
