A high-intensity K-9 pursuit in South Texas and the arrest of a suspected transnational gang member highlight this week’s Texas Takedown.
Texas authorities say a trained police dog tracked illegal aliens through dense brush for miles near the border, while investigators also announced the arrest of a suspected sex trafficking suspect tied to a Venezuelan gang.
The developments come as state and federal agencies continue coordinated enforcement efforts under ongoing border security initiatives.

A K-9 unit with the Texas Department of Public Safety tracked and helped apprehend two individuals suspected of entering the country illegally after a nearly six-mile pursuit in Maverick County, according to a March 29 social media post by Lt. Chris Olivarez.
Olivarez wrote, “K-9 Bona: Relentless. Focused. Unmatched,” describing how the dog navigated thick brush and led officers to the suspects. The video accompanying the post shows the dog moving through rugged terrain before locating individuals hiding in vegetation. A still image at the end shows officers with several individuals in custody.
Olivarez said the handler paused during the pursuit to allow the dog to cool down and rehydrate, emphasizing what he described as the “training, trust, and discipline” between the K-9 and its handler.
Law enforcement agencies frequently rely on trained dogs for tracking and detection tasks. “Dogs can hear a person’s heartbeat 50 meters away,” and their “sense of smell is 10,000 times more potent than humans,” according to a fact sheet from the Retired Police Canine Foundation.
Suspected TdA Gang Member Arrested In Trafficking Case
Texas authorities say a suspected member of Tren de Aragua has been arrested following a multiyear investigation.
DPS officials allege that Carlos Andry Daviel Matute Marchena, a 26-year-old illegal alien from Venezuela, was wanted in connection with sex trafficking activities tied to West Texas. According to DPS, investigators located him in Peoria, Illinois, with assistance from federal partners, including Immigration and Customs Enforcement and Customs and Border Protection.
He was transported back to Texas and booked into the El Paso County Jail, with a court hearing scheduled for next month, according to authorities.

In a follow-up statement, Olivarez wrote, “Another violent criminal illegal immigrant taken off the streets in West Texas,” adding that the arrest reflects “the critical role of Operation Lone Star and the whole-of-Texas approach.”
Authorities have not publicly released detailed court records outlining the allegations, and the claims have not been independently verified. The defendant is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
The case comes amid broader scrutiny of trafficking activity across Texas. A recent enforcement operation along a known corridor in northwest Dallas was linked to a wider investigation into alleged prostitution, trafficking, and money laundering, according to previous reporting by The Dallas Express. That probe involved multiple agencies and focused on businesses along Harry Hines Boulevard, an area long identified by law enforcement as a hub for such activity.
Officials say the latest arrest underscores ongoing efforts to target individuals accused of exploitation through trafficking networks, while K-9 deployments continue to play a role in enforcement operations.
