Sid Miller: Mexican Drug Cartels Are Terrorists – Backing Trump’s Direct Military Action

Texas Agriculture Commissioner Sid Miller has thrown his full support behind President Donald Trump’s recent call for direct U.S. military action against Mexican drug cartels, labeling them as terrorists wreaking havoc on American soil.

Miller’s endorsement of Trump’s potential plans, published last week, comes during a time of escalating concerns over fentanyl flooding into the country, as well as a surge of crime-related disruptions to farmers along the southern border.

“These are savage terrorists profiting from addiction, agony, and anarchy. They poison our towns with fentanyl, prey on desperate migrants, bully businesses, and breed fear and corruption everywhere. ” Miller said. He also put a spotlight on the daily battles faced by Texans due to cartel impositions, including stolen equipment, smuggling trails on private land, and overburdened law enforcement agencies trying to secure the border.

“This isn’t some foreign headache – it’s a full-on war on Texas and America,” stated Miller.

The commissioner’s stance seems to almost exactly align with Trump’s recent directives, which have reportedly ramped up pressure on the cartels and their global drug trade.

In a Fox News interview earlier this month, Trump told Sean Hannity, “We’ve knocked out 97 percent of the drugs coming in by water, and we are going to start now hitting land…The cartels are running Mexico; it’s very sad to watch and see what’s happened to that country.”

Miller celebrated Trump’s “iron-clad leadership” – specifically how he has gone on to officially label these cartel groups as foreign “narco-terrorist” organizations, a move formalized by the White House in early 2025.

The Department of State followed suit, officially designating several international cartels to try to isolate them financially and disrupt their crime rings. Some of the world’s biggest cartel groups and foreign gangs – like the Cartel de Sinaloa, Cartel de Jalisco Nueva Generacion, and the Tren De Aragua – are now officially deemed as Foreign Terrorist Organizations thanks to a 2025 Federal Register notice, which allows more “tools” to be used by the government to fight off their influence.

At the Texas Department of Agriculture, Miller reflected on his team’s firsthand experience working with border ranchers and Mexican officials, many of whom, he says, privately support completely wiping out the cartels, but fear retaliation.

“Many Mexican officials privately want these cartels wiped out, but stay silent out of fear for their own lives…That’s why I salute President Trump’s iron-clad leadership and stand ready to support him in swift, decisive military action to wipe out these terrorist cartels and defend our country,” Miller added.
