A retired police officer of 25 years died in a house fire Sunday morning, WFAA reported.

Cpl. Tony Miller, 62, died at his home in Azle, Haltom City Police officials said.

Miller began his career as a police officer in 1997 as a patrol officer, reaching the rank of corporal and eventually becoming a firearms instructor.

Miller was assigned to the Criminal Investigations Division as a detective, according to NBC DFW.

However, after retiring from the police force, he became a property technician at the Haltom City Police Department.

“Tony was an expert marksman, competition shooter and loved all things related to firearms,” Haltom City Police said in a press release. “His smile, laughter, and wealth of knowledge will not soon be forgotten. We ask the citizens of Haltom to pray for Tony’s family, loved ones, and fellow officers as they mourn this devastating loss.”

No details on how the fire started have been released. The fire is currently under investigation.
