Responders have found a body after several days searching for a missing San Antonio young woman.

Bexar County Sheriff’s deputies and members of the FBI found a body in a field in Northwest San Antonio around 4:45 p.m. on December 30, Sheriff Javier Salazar announced during a press conference. The location was several hundred yards from the home of 19-year-old Camila Olmos, who has been missing since Christmas Eve.

At the time of publication, officials could not yet confirm if the body was Olmos, or the manner of death, according to Salazar. He said the Bexar County Medical Examiner will announce the findings in the coming days.

“At this point, we don’t suspect foul play,” Salazar said. “As you all know, one of the possibilities that we were working under was the fear of self harm. At this point, there are some indicators that the body that we found may be as a result of that.”

Salazar said investigators are processing the scene, and hope to release more information as soon as possible. The FBI sent a “small army” to help search for Olmos on December 30.

“We actually, this afternoon, made a conscious decision to go back to an area that had already been checked,” he said. “Due to tall grass, we felt that there would be a benefit to checking the area once again.”

After 10 minutes, they found the body.

“Too early to tell who or cause and manner, but we have a body at this point,” Salazar said.

Investigators have been considering the possibility that Olmos may have died by suicide.

“There had been some concerns of depression, suicidal ideations made on Camila’s part, to where we were considering that a very real possibility,” Salazar said. “This body being found with a weapon very nearby, that certainly to me is the prevailing theory. But we’re still going to process the scene as possibly a homicide, and possibly not her.”

A family member’s gun had gone missing prior to the discovery, according to Salazar. But he could not yet confirm whether that was the same gun found at the scene.

Prior to her disappearance, Olmos had been posting about travels, food, and pets on social media, as The Dallas Express reported. Her posts also suggested an active faith life – including a Bible verse in her Instagram profile, posting a video studying scripture on TikTok, and reposting Christian messages.

During the press conference, Salazar warned parents to check in on their kids.

“Sometimes, when everything seems to be okay, it might be because they’ve made up their mind and they’re coming to peace with the fact that they’re going to end their own life,” he said. “If you’re going through a crisis yourself, reach out and get help. If you suspect a friend or family member is going through a tough time mentally, please get them the help that they need.”

Investigators cannot yet say the body is Olmos, but it remains a strong possibility, according to Salazar.

“We always hope in these situations that she’s going to be fine,” he said. “This is certainly not the outcome we were hoping for.”
