One person died, and two others were injured after a small plane in which they were flying crashed outside of Houston on Thursday.

At around 5:15 pm, the single-engine fixed-wing Cirrus SR22 appeared to experience some kind of power loss.

The plane crashed between two mobile homes on the 8500 block of Monterrey Pine Place, just east of Tomball and roughly 30 miles northwest of Houston, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS).

DPS Sgt. Richard Standifer said the plane was approaching the runway for landing at David Wayne Hooks Memorial Airport when it experienced power failure and crashed just two-thirds of a mile short of the runway.

The plane had started its journey from McGhee Tyson Airport in Knoxville, Tennessee, and stopped in Louisiana to refuel before flying to the Houston area.

Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez revealed that the plane was carrying two men, one of whom died at the hospital from his severe injuries, and a woman. Gonzalez added that the two survivors were being treated in a hospital and were in stable condition.

No other injuries on the ground were reported.

The three in the plane have since been identified as Kim Hazelwood, 56, David Stoneking, 67, and 31-year-old Christopher Jensen.

Jensen died as a result of the crash. It is unclear who was flying the plane, however, DPS stated that both Jensen and Stoneking had pilot licenses.

Without identifying Jensen by name, Cirrus Aircraft spokeswoman Nadia Haidar released a statement saying one of its employees had died in the crash.

“We are deeply saddened,” Haidar stated. “Our immediate thoughts and prayers are with our team member’s family, the aircraft occupants and all those affected.”

Haidar did not provide further information.

The Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board are both currently investigating the incident.
