A man drowned Sunday afternoon in a pond near the Target and Costco on Overton Ridge Drive in Fort Worth.

The incident, which took place near I-20 and the Chisholm Trail Parkway, is still under investigation, according to the Fort Worth Police Department.

Witnesses told police that the man ran into a large pond and began struggling, according to a report from CBS. KRLD news radio reported witnesses claimed the man immediately went under after running into the water.

The fire department initially responded at 3 p.m. to a call from an address on Overton Ridge Drive. Fort Worth PD dive crews searched for the man in an attempt to rescue him, but he died before being pulled from the water.

The victim was described as an adult male, but no other details were released.

The circumstances leading up to the drowning are unknown, with Fort Worth police saying they were unsure whether it was a suicide or an accident.
