On April Fools’ night, a bizarre incident involving a man mowing a stranger’s lawn and then briefly stealing the mower has police still pursuing the thief.

Police in Port Arthur, Texas, indicated that a local homeowner had contacted them on April 1, noting that “an unknown person” was mowing the homeowner’s lawn around 8 p.m.

According to security footage, the suspect enters the yard before going off-camera to remove a bike, lawnmower, and gas tank from a garage.

He then fills up the lawnmower, puts the gas can away, starts up the mower, and begins cutting the grass in the backyard.

According to the video timestamp, he swiftly mows the small grass area and walks to the front yard in less than four minutes.

The man took off running with the lawnmower upon law enforcement’s arrival before eventually discarding it in a nearby alley.

The suspect, later identified as Marcus Renard Hubbard, remains at large and faces a charge of burglary of a building.

The Port Arthur Police shared the video footage on their Facebook page in hopes of capturing the suspect.

Some Facebook users commented on the video to give their thoughts on the incident.

“Seriously, the homeowner should be rewarding him,” said Kathy Coutinho. “Hopefully Port Arthur police have better things to do with their time because going after this guy is ridiculous.”

Several other users made joking remarks stating that they would allow the man to cut their yards.

“Yeah, ok, someone send him over to my house, tho (sic),” said Jamie Morello. “My grass is too long.”

Hubbard now has an outstanding warrant for burglary of a building, according to police, who did not specify how they identified him as the alleged offender.

Anyone who has information on the suspect’s whereabouts is asked to call the Port Arthur Police at 409-983-8600.

Tipsters can anonymously give Crime Stoppers of Southeast Texas information at 409-833-TIPS (8477) or download the P3Tips App on your mobile device. Those callers could potentially earn a reward of up to $1,000.
