Frisco’s Mayor Jeff Cheney announced his bid for re-election via social media last month. He has been in office since May 2017.

Unlike Dallas Mayor Eric Johnson, who will be running unopposed for mayor of Dallas, as he announced on Twitter, Cheney will be facing off against two contenders.

Jonathan Spencer, a resident of Frisco for one year, has applied to run for the office of mayor according to his candidacy application.

Spencer is self-employed and works in software, construction, and trucking, according to his application.

Mark Piland, who was the fire chief for the city of Frisco before retiring and a resident of Frisco for nearly 10 years, has also thrown his hat in the ring in an effort to become the next mayor of Frisco.

Piland has over 35 years in the Fire-Rescue service, with experience in the areas of Fire Administration and many more certifications and accolades, according to his profile.

If Cheney wins re-election, he will have reached his term limit.

He was also a city council member from 2007 to 2016.

As he announced his bid for re-election on Facebook, he reflected on the history and tenure that he has had within the Frisco government.

“Please join me for a special evening celebrating Frisco and kicking off my Re-Election for Frisco Mayor,” said Cheney in a post.

“Frisco has accomplished many things over the last six years under my leadership, and I invite you to celebrate these accomplishments together. I look forward to the next three years as your mayor!”

Elections are on May 6.
