The body of a man was found in a home that caught fire, according to the Plano Fire-Rescue department.

Firefighters were called to a house fire at 5 a.m. Monday morning in the 7900 block of Simpkins Drive. Thick black smoke filled the house and pushed out of the front eaves.

“When they arrived on scene, firefighters found heavy fire in the back half of home with flames reaching above the nearby treetops,” Lieutenant Daniel Daly, public information officer for Plano Fire-Rescue, told The Dallas Express.

Firefighters’ first attempts to enter the home through the front door were blocked by extreme heat, so they switched to rapidly searching the house through the exterior windows.

Other fire crews moved hose lines and aerial ladders to attack the fire from defensive positions.

Once firefighters were able to control the fire, crews entered the home and discovered the man’s body, along with a deceased pet in another room.

The person’s identity has not yet been released, pending a coroner’s report, and it is unclear as to what type of pet animal was found in the home. Both were carefully removed from the house, according to officials.

After firefighters extinguished most of the fire, they were able to reenter the home to finish putting out smaller fires inside.

The cause and further details of the incident are still under investigation, which is headed by the fire marshal and Plano police department.

The Dallas Express reached out to the Plano police department for additional information and comment and was told that no foul play was involved based on the preliminary investigation.
