The Fort Worth City Council approved Tuesday the proposal for a memorial in honor of a Fort Worth couple who were killed in November 2020.

The memorial will honor Ben and Meg Arbour, who were 39 years old when they were killed during a street racing accident. The couple pulled into an intersection where two cars were street racing, and their car was struck by one of the drivers on the 4700 block of West Risinger Road.

The driver and the couple were pronounced dead at the scene on November 6, 2020. The couple had four children who are now living with relatives.

The council approved the proposal made by District 6 Council Member Jared Williams. The memorial will be placed at West Risinger Road and Burr Oak Lane, according to NBC.

The mayor of Fort Worth, Mattie Parker, knew Ben Arbour and stated that the problem of street racing had been discussed before by the city council.

“You have young people who are not thinking about the results of their actions. Because of what happened, you took two parents from their children,” she stated, reported NBC.

Dale Braswell, lead pastor of Wedgwood Baptist Church, which the Arbours attended, spoke to NBC about the couples’ continued legacy at the church.

“As a family, you grieve the loss of a loved one. I think that’s something you never stop doing. You may be moving forward, but you never move on from them. I would say that’s where we, as a church, are. They’re always going to be on our hearts, they’re always going to be in our memory,” said Braswell, reported NBC.

“We want to continue to honor their legacy by continuing to be obedient to God’s calling as a church.”

The parents of Ben and Meg were present at the city council meeting on Tuesday and offered their input on the memorial, which will be installed sometime in early May.

Meg’s father, Andy Anderson, stated, “We miss Meg and Ben greatly, but we also have the faith that everything is OK,” according to NBC.
