Last Day To Register To Vote

With one month left before the Texas primaries, here are key details you should know:

Critical Dates

  • February 5: Final day to register to vote
  • February 20: Early voting begins
  • February 23: Final day counties can receive mail-in ballots
  • March 1: Early voting ends
  • March 5: Election Day

Ballot Initiatives

Next month, residents of the Lone Star state will have the opportunity to vote for candidates in the respective Democratic and Republican primaries, the winners of which will ultimately end up on the November general election ballot.

However, numerous other initiatives and positions will be voted on during the primaries, as well:

  • President (1)
  • U.S. Senator (1)
  • U.S. House (38)
  • Railroad Commissioner (1)
  • State Senators (15)
  • State Representatives (150)
  • State Board of Education (7)
  • Texas Supreme Court (3)
  • Texas Court of Criminal Appeals (3)

The ballot will also include lower court judges and local county positions.

  • District judges
  • County Courts at Law
  • Justices of the Peace
  • District Attorneys
  • County Attorneys
  • Sheriffs
  • Constables
  • Tax Assessor-Collectors

As previously reported by The Dallas Express, Republican primary voters will also have 13 propositions to vote on, including whether to support the creation of a border protection unit.

Confirming Voter Registration Status

You can verify if you are registered to vote by checking the Texas Secretary of State’s website. To log in, you’ll need one of the following:

  • Your Texas driver’s license, along with your date of birth.
  • Your first and last name, date of birth, and county of residence.
  • Your date of birth and Voter Unique Identifier (VUI).

Eligible Texas voters must be:

  • A citizen of the United States
  • A resident of the county where the ballot is intended to be cast
  • At least 18 years of age on March 5

Individuals are ineligible to vote if:

  • They are a convicted felon who has not fully discharged their sentence
  • They have been declared incapacitated by a court

Locating Polling Locations

Check your county election office website for specific details on polling locations, which will be posted no later than February 13.
