Local police are reporting that one person died after an 18-wheeler flew off an overpass on U.S. Highway 75 in Allen on Tuesday afternoon.

The crash, which occurred near the intersection of 75 and Stacy Road, resulted after a semi-truck collided with another vehicle.

The Allen Police Department stated that the semi-truck appeared to be heading northbound when the collision reportedly resulted in the truck veering off the overpass.

Footage captured by a dashcam shows the 18-wheeler falling off of the overpass before overturning onto the road below. The truck then burst into flames.

The driver of the semi-truck died, according to police. Their identity has not yet been released by authorities.

As a consequence of the crash, letters and packages spilled out from the truck. Some packages reportedly had U.S. Postal Service (USPS) markings on them, and a USPS employee was seen at the scene taking photos and making phone calls.

USPS has yet to confirm whether it owns the truck or whether the driver was an employee.

The driver of the other vehicle involved in the crash was not injured. They were reportedly seen cooperating with Allen police.

As a result of the collision, traffic was seen backed up for miles on northbound 75 through Allen. Delays lasted well into the early evening, with the east service road from Cabela Drive to Stacy Road also shut down.

“Our thoughts and deepest condolences are with the victim’s family and friends as they deal with their loss,” Allen police said in a statement.

The Texas Department of Transportation stated that crews were on the scene investigating the incident.

Authorities are requesting that anyone who witnessed the crash call police at 214-509-4288 and report any pertinent information as the investigation continues.
