A brand of ground cinnamon distributed in Texas and five other states is being recalled after testing found elevated levels of lead, according to a new federal safety notice.
Galil Importing Corp. of Hauppauge, New York, announced Thursday that it is recalling Lior Cinnamon Ground Seasoning after a sample collected and analyzed by the Maryland Department of Health showed elevated lead levels.
The product was distributed for nearly 10 months, meaning consumers may still have affected containers in their kitchens.

The recall involves Lior Cinnamon Ground Seasoning sold in 90-gram, or 3.2-ounce, transparent plastic containers.
The affected product carries:
- UPC: 794711005484
- Lot code: GAP11304
The lot code appears on the side of the container beneath the ingredient line.
According to the FDA recall notice, the cinnamon was distributed to retail stores, grocery stores, delis and supermarkets in Texas, Florida, Illinois, New Jersey, New York and Pennsylvania between Nov. 18, 2025, and Sept. 7, 2026.
No illnesses had been reported as of the recall announcement.
Consumers should not eat the affected cinnamon. The FDA said it should either be discarded or returned to the place of purchase for a refund.
Why Lead Exposure Matters
Lead exposure may not always produce immediate or obvious symptoms.
The FDA said short-term exposure to very low levels of lead may produce no symptoms, with an elevated blood lead level potentially being the only apparent sign.
The effects depend on the amount and duration of exposure as well as a person’s age and body weight.
Children are of particular concern. Prolonged exposure to sufficient amounts of lead can cause permanent damage to the central nervous system and may result in learning disorders, developmental problems and other long-term health effects, according to the FDA.
Supplier Investigation Underway
Galil Importing said it initiated the voluntary recall and notified customers to stop distributing and selling the affected product and to place remaining inventory on hold.
The company has also begun investigating its supplier and said it implemented enhanced testing and supplier-verification measures to prevent a recurrence.
