Several teams were in action in the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex this weekend.

Here is what happened on the field and behind the scenes.

MLB

Texas Rangers (9-6, first in American League West)

Last games: Rangers 6, Houston Astros 2; Astros 8, Rangers 2; Rangers 9, Astros 1

The Rangers took two of three in their first series of the season against the Houston Astros. Martin Perez and Andrew Heaney shut down the Houston offense on Friday and Sunday, while the bullpen had to eat innings as Jon Gray left Saturday’s game with an injury. Marcus Semien and Nathaniel Lowe had big games to lead the Texas offense.

Noteworthy: Gray took a line drive off the elbow, but the X-rays were negative. Manager Bruce Bochy says he does not expect Gray to miss time.

— The Rangers remain in first place in the AL West. It is the latest point in the season they have led the division since 2016.

— Sunday’s win gave Texas its first series win on the road this season.

— With a double in the seventh inning, first baseman Nathaniel Lowe extended his hitting streak to 11 games, tying the best stretch of his career.

Next Up: Rangers at Kansas City Royals (4-12), 6:40 p.m. CT Monday

Minor League Baseball

Frisco RoughRiders (5-4, tied for third in Class AA Texas League)

Last game: RoughRiders 12, San Antonio Missions 2

The RoughRiders wrapped up a six-game series with San Antonio over the weekend, winning four of the six. Each Frisco win was by at least six runs. Dustin Harris delivered the final blow on Sunday with a grand slam that increased Frisco’s lead to 11-1 in the seventh inning.

Noteworthy: Outfielder Evan Carter has reached base in eight of the RoughRiders’ nine games. He is hitting .389 with three home runs, 15 RBIs, and a 1.167 OPS.

— Texas Rangers prospect Jack Leiter takes the mound when the RoughRiders return to Riders Field to face the Arkansas Travelers on Tuesday.

Next Up: Arkansas Travelers (7-2) at RoughRiders, 6:35 p.m. CT Tuesday

XFL

Arlington Renegades (4-5, second in South Division)

Last game: D.C. Defenders 28, Renegades 26 (overtime)

The Renegades trailed by as many as 17 in the second half but rallied to force overtime behind two touchdowns from De’Veon Smith and a 27-yard Taylor Russolino field goal as time expired. The XFL’s overtime rules have the teams take turns running two-point plays, and the team that converts more conversions wins the game. The Renegades threw three incomplete passes on their attempts, while D.C. converted its second try on a pass from Jordan Ta’amu to Josh Hammond.

Noteworthy: The Renegades remain in second place in the XFL South ahead of their regular-season finale against the Houston Roughnecks. Houston has already clinched a playoff berth and will play either Arlington or San Antonio in the first round on April 29.

Next Up: Houston Roughnecks (6-3) at Renegades, 2 p.m. CT Sunday

MLS

FC Dallas (4-2-2, fourth in Western Conference)

Last game: FC Dallas 2, Real Salt Lake 1

FC Dallas was outshot 15-4 on Saturday yet pulled out a win thanks to a Bernard Kamungo goal in the 88th minute. The late goal came 20 minutes after Real Salt Lake had tied the game to give FC Dallas its second consecutive win.

Noteworthy: The win ends a five-game Real Salt Lake winning streak in Dallas.

— Jesus Ferreira has scored a goal in each of FC Dallas’s four wins this season, and the team has now won 14 consecutive home games in which Ferreira has scored.

Next Up: New York City FC (3-2-3) at FC Dallas, 6:30 p.m. CT Saturday
