Texas Dominates MaxPreps Preseason All-American Football Team

The 2022 preseason MaxPreps High School All-America Football Teams were announced Tuesday, with Texas students leading the way with more players selected than any other state.

Furthermore, out of the nine Texas players selected three attended schools in the DFW metroplex area.

Out of Denton, Billy Ryan High School’s five-star linebacker Anthony Hill Jr. and John H. Guyer’s four-star safety Peyton Bowen were named first-team preseason All-Americans. Additionally, Tyler White, who was named to the second team as a punter, attended Carroll High School in Southlake.

Hill, the No.15 overall prospect and the No.1 linebacker in the 2023 class according to 247Sports’ composite rankings, committed to Texas A&M. Last season, Hill had 131 tackles, eight sacks, two interceptions, and two defensive touchdowns for Ryan (12-2), which lost in the quarterfinals of the 5A Div. I playoffs.

Hill earned first-team MaxPreps Junior All-American honors and was named a Class 5A first-team all-state player by the Texas Sportswriters Association (TSWA).

Bowen, the No. 47 overall prospect and No. 5 safety in the class of 2023 according to 247Sports, is committed to attending Notre Dame. He was vital to last year’s 6A Div. II state runner-up Denton Guyer (14-2), scoring seven touchdowns in multiple fashions (one on defense, three as a returner, and three as a wide receiver).

Bowen added six interceptions and 59 tackles on defense last season.

The area’s top kicker and punter, White, is also the No.1 punter in the nation for the class of 2023, according to 247Sports. He is committed to attending Texas A&M for football and baseball.

White made 10 of 12 field goal attempts for Carroll last season, with the longest made of 55 yards. He averaged 42.3 yards per punt and was selected to MaxPreps Second-Team Junior All-American team as a punter.

White is an interdisciplinary athlete and also pitched for Carroll’s baseball team, helping the team win its third 6A state championship in four seasons.

The other honorees from Texas on the first-team include El Campo five-star running back Rueben Owens, a Louisville commit, Austin Westlake four-star wide receiver Jaden Greathouse, a Notre Dame commit, Austin Westlake four-star offensive lineman TJ Shanahan, and Katy Paetow five-star defensive lineman David Hicks Jr.

Shiner four-star running back Dalton Brooks, a Texas A&M commit, and Austin Westlake four-star edge rusher Colton Vasek, an Oklahoma commit, were named to the second team.

One of the standout players is first-team quarterback Arch Manning out of New Orleans’ Isidore Newman High School. The No.1 overall prospect in the class of 2023, according to 247Sports, Manning committed to attending the University of Texas.
