Texas Dominates 2026 March Madness: 7 Men’s Teams, 6 Women’s Qualify In Bracket Reveal

Seven Texas men’s basketball teams earned spots in the 2026 NCAA Tournament, tying for one of the largest state contingents, while six Texas women’s programs also qualified, led by the top-seeded Longhorns.

The men’s bracket, revealed on March 15, features Houston as a No. 2 seed, with Texas A&M, Texas Tech, TCU, Texas, SMU, and Prairie View A&M rounding out the group.

On the women’s side, the University of Texas secured a No. 1 overall seed in the Fort Worth 3 Region and will host early rounds in Austin. Baylor and Texas Tech also made the field as No. 6 and No. 7 seeds, respectively, with TCU, Rice, and Stephen F. Austin joining them, according to NBC 5 DFW.

The men’s tournament opens with First Four games on March 17-18 in Dayton, Ohio.

Texas faces NC State in a First Four matchup on March 17 at 9:15 p.m. ET on truTV, per the official NCAA bracket.

Houston, the highest-seeded Texas team at No. 2 in the East Region, plays No. 15 Lafayette in the first round on March 19 in Brooklyn, New York.

Texas A&M, a No. 10 seed in the South, meets No. 7 St. Mary’s on March 19 at 7:35 p.m. ET in Memphis, Tennessee, as detailed by NCAA.com.

Texas Tech, seeded No. 5 in the Midwest, takes on No. 12 Akron on March 19 in Indianapolis, Indiana.

TCU, a No. 6 seed in the West, battles No. 11 Colorado State on March 19 in Salt Lake City, Utah.

SMU, earning its first bid since 2017 as a No. 9 in the Midwest, faces No. 8 Oregon on March 19 in Indianapolis.

Prairie View A&M plays in the First Four against Howard on March 18 at 6:40 p.m. ET.

For the women, Texas opens against the winner of the Missouri State-Stephen F. Austin game on March 20 at 11:30 a.m. MDT in Austin, as shown in the NCAA women’s bracket.

Baylor meets No. 11 Duke on March 20 at 9:30 a.m. MDT in Durham, North Carolina.

Texas Tech faces No. 10 Villanova on March 20 at 4 p.m. MDT in Lubbock, Texas.

TCU, a No. 8 seed, plays No. 9 Virginia Tech on March 21 at 12:30 p.m. MDT in Fort Worth.

The tournaments culminate in Final Fours: men’s April 4-6 in San Antonio, Texas, and women’s April 3-5 in Boston, Massachusetts, per FOX Sports.
