It’s been a great week for sports across the Dallas-Fort Worth area. Here are some of the big headlines from this week:

Dallas Stars Losing Streak Ends

The Stars brought a four-game losing streak to an end on Saturday. The Stars faced some of the NHL’s elite teams and saw otherworldly goaltending performances by the New York Rangers and the Boston Bruins. Despite the streak, the Stars remain one of the top teams in the Western Conference and have a three-point advantage over the Winnipeg Jets.

Mavericks are the Team of the Week

The Dallas Mavericks made big moves at the trade deadline to acquire PJ Washington and Daniel Gafford, and it looks like those moves are paying dividends. The Mavs are currently one of the hottest teams in the NBA and are on a seven-game win streak that includes victories over some of the titans of the NBA.

College Basketball Brawl Leads to Suspensions

A brawl that erupted following the Texas A&M-Commerce vs. Incarnate Word game earlier this week resulted in four players from each team receiving suspensions. Three players for A&M-Commerce received three-game bans but will return for the season’s final game, and a fourth player received a one-game suspension. Incarnate Word will be without their leading scorer and two other players for three games, while a final player will be unavailable for two games.

Local Soccer Team Helps Preschool

The Texas Outlaws of the Major Arena Soccer League partnered with a non-profit organization devoted to enhancing Head Start programs and delivered 1,400 bottles of mineral water to a preschool in the Cleburne area outside Fort Worth. Players spent the day talking with the children and even played a friendly game to demonstrate some soccer skills. The collaborative event helped to show children they could achieve their dreams and enhanced the visibility of the soccer club in the local community — a win-win for both.
