Dallas Stars forward Jason Robertson extended his point streak to seven consecutive games as the team fell 4-3 to the Montreal Canadiens on home ice on Tuesday night.

As the Stars trailed 4-2 and turned to the extra attacker in the final minutes, Robertson slid a rebound past Montreal goalie Sam Montembeault to collect his 12th goal of the season and cut the deficit to one with two minutes remaining. He now has 10 points in his last seven games (three goals and seven assists) and has 17 points in his last 20 games.

Robertson is not on track to repeat last season’s career-bests, when he totaled 109 points (46 goals and 63 assists), but his production has still been very good, and his current hot streak is a welcome sight to his team and the fans as the season continues.

His current streak is the third-longest the Stars have had this season, but he is 11 games away from tying his career-best streak from the beginning of last season.

Dallas also got a significant contribution from second-year forward Wyatt Johnston, who scored his first goal since his two-goal performance against Calgary on November 24 and also had an assist to become the game’s Third Star.

“Big goal for him,” Stars head coach Pete DeBoer told the media postgame. “He’s been all around it for a long time, and he needed one to break the egg, so to speak. Hopefully, he’s off and running now. He’s been feeling the pressure of that, carrying that around.”

Both Johnston and Robertson were critical pieces of last year’s run to the Western Conference Final, and their added contributions to a team that is in the thick of the Western Conference playoff chase yet again would pay dividends moving forward.

The Stars (22-10-4) will look to keep both players rolling and atone for the loss as they continue their homestand against the Colorado Avalanche (24-11-3) at 7 p.m. CT on Thursday at the American Airlines Center.
