Sports

Sofia Munoz, a midfielder from Dallas and alum of Health Professions High School, is leading the UT Dallas soccer team into American Southwest Conference Tournament play.

Munoz, a junior, has been heavily involved with the team when it comes to scoring, playing time, and intangible contributions.

In high school, Munoz was named as the District MVP as a senior. In her 2018 season with the school, she played in all 19 games with 16 starts as a freshman and was named first team all-ASC and second team all-region. She recorded 8 goals, 7 assists, and 23 total points on 36 shots. The highlight of the season was a hat trick in a 5-0 victory over Louisiana College.

In 2019, Munoz appeared in all 21 games and started 20 of them as a sophomore. She was named second team all-region and first team all-ASC, recording nine goals, six assists, and 24 total points. She recorded another hat trick in a 6-0 win over Concordia and tallied the game-winning goal in four games.

Now, the junior midfielder will lead the Comets into the culmination of their season, the American Southwest Conference Tournament.
