Fresh off her record-setting season, Guyer High star pitcher Ranci Willis has signed to attend Texas Tech next season.

Willis’ senior season for the Wildcats was one to remember, featuring her breaking the single-season record for strikeouts  with 287, posting a 22-1 record and a 1.10 ERA.

“Ranci Willis is dominating opponents for the Denton Guyer Wildcats softball team, and enjoying every minute of it,” Bally Sports Southwest captioned a photo of teammates celebrating with Willis on its Twitter page.

In recently announcing the 6-foot, right-hander’s addition, Texas Tech coach Sami Ward couldn’t hide her excitement.

“We are excited to add Ranci to the team,” she said in a school press release. “She emerged as a competitor who has flown under the radar. We expect her to help our pitching staff and our team when she steps on campus.”

Riding Willis’ dominance, Guyer advanced to the 6A Regional Quarterfinals in 2019. As a sophomore, she was tabbed All-Area Newcomer as Guyer improved to 26-9, the school’s best overall finish since the 2015 season.

Willis also plays travel ball for American Freedom National 18U, posting a 1.44 ERA for the team over 214 innings of work in helping them to an eighth-place finish in the TFL Championships last fall.
