FIFA officials joined Lake Dallas and Denton County leaders this week to unveil a new mini-pitch soccer field aimed at expanding youth access to the sport ahead of next year’s World Cup.
The small-sided field was installed at Lake Dallas City Park, replacing two existing tennis courts just north of Lewisville Lake. The project is intended to give local children additional opportunities to play soccer and develop skills in the sport.
Lake Dallas Mayor Kristy Bleau said the mini-pitch offers amenities the city would otherwise be unable to afford.
“This mini pitch provides a space where young athletes can develop skills, build confidence, and experience the joy of the game,” Bleau said. “It’s a place where teamwork, discipline, and perseverance are learned lessons that extend far beyond the field.”
Denton County Commissioner Bobbie Mitchell described the project as an investment in the community’s future.
“It is an investment in our youth, our neighborhoods, and the future of soccer in North Texas,” Mitchell said. “This space will serve as a place where young people can gather, play, grow, and dream, not just today, but generations to come.”
FIFA has said the mini-pitch initiative is part of its broader effort to promote youth engagement in soccer ahead of the World Cup.
