Ursuline track star Devon Vopni is headed to Baylor University after officially signing a letter of intent with the Baylor program.

Vopni was recently one of four Ursuline student athletes to make their commitments public, joining soccer star Kaitlyn Vess (University of Dallas) and volleyball players Joy Liu (Bowdoin College) and Allison Wilbert (Roanoke College).

“Congratulations to the student-athletes on signing to compete at the next level,” the school posted on Twitter.

A distance runner, Vopni has been competing in that area for only the last two years. She ran track and cross country in middle school but before her junior year at Ursuline had primarily been focused on soccer.

“I ran middle distance track the spring of my sophomore year,” she told the school website. “And I converted over off season during the summer into a distance runner.”

Even as she prides herself on being the ultimate teammate, Vopni said she loves the individuality of being a distance runner.

“I love the escape and outlet that running has provided for me and all the friends that I have made in the past years,” she said. “There is truly something special about getting to run with and push each other every day at practice and see each other at our best and worst.”

Vopni finished as the runner-up at the TAPPS 6A cross country meet in the fall. At Baylor, she plans to major in Health Science Studies.
