Dallas Mayor Eric Johnson and Omaha Mayor Jean Stothert have made a “friendly wager” on the upcoming undisputed welterweight world championship fight between Dallas resident and defending champion Errol “The Truth” Spence Jr. and Omaha native Terence “Bud” Crawford.

Johnson challenged Stothert on Twitter, offering a “Texas-style belt buckle” from Wild Bill’s Western Store if Crawford wins the fight. Stothert accepted the challenge and will send Johnson prime cuts of meat from Omaha Steaks if Spence defends his title successfully.

“I love a friendly wager and am eager to watch what is sure to be a competitive match between two of the best pound-for-pound fighters in the sport,” Johnson said in an official press release. “Dallas is home for Errol Spence Jr., and I admire his incredible talent, grit, and determination.”

“We look forward to cheering for our hometown champ Terence Crawford in his bout against an equally talented opponent,” Stothert remarked in the release. “His investment in Omaha’s B & B Sports Academy demonstrates his commitment to our community and will serve as an inspiration for our youth.”

The match will determine the “undisputed” welterweight champion. Spence holds the World Boxing Council (WBC), World Boxing Association (WBA), and International Boxing Federation (IBF) titles. Crawford is the World Boxing Organization (WBO) champ.

Spence has been fighting professionally since November 2012 and has accumulated a 28-0 record (22-0 in knockouts and 6-0 by decisions). His last fight was in April 2022 at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, where he successfully defended his WBC and IBF titles while adding one from the WBA.

Crawford debuted professionally in 2008 as he defeated Brian Cummings in Denver. He is 39-0 (30-0 KO and 9-0 by decision) and has defended his title six times, most recently against David Avanesyan in Omaha in December 2022.

Johnson has made several similar wagers with other mayors, including bets with Las Vegas Mayor Carolyn Goodman and Tampa Mayor Jane Castor over Dallas Stars playoff games. In January, he also made another bet with Castor regarding the Cowboys-Buccaneers playoff game.

The fight will take place in Las Vegas at 7 p.m. CT on Saturday.
